Therapeutic Literacy Center has been an emergent part of the North County San Diego Dyslexia community since early 2013.  Collectively, the team has over 40 years experience in educational therapy with children and adults.  We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of instruction and therapy, and offer a wide array of diagnostic services and treatment options for the child who is struggling academically.  Maria has recruited and trained the highest caliber of clinicians to work one-on-one with students using state-of-the-art technology in a ‘safe haven’ environment that is both fun and life-changing.

Chelsea Leatherman, B.A.

Chelsea Leatherman graduated from Westmont College with a B.A. in Sociology before returning to North County San Diego. After working at TERI Inc with kids with developmental disabilities for a year and a half as a 1:1 instructor, she returned to CSU San Marcos for her teaching credential. She currently has her Multiple and Single Subject Teaching credential qualifying her to teach in a K-12 classroom and is currently enrolled in an Educational Therapy Program to receive her Professional Certificate in Educational Therapy as well.  Her teaching experiences range from teaching AP classes and middle school history to teaching 5th grade. She is passionate about working with kids and helping them overcome any obstacles or challenges in learning. Prior to joining the team, she worked in a private school in Asuncion, Paraguay with a diverse group of students. Some of the challenges she helped students overcome and handle were autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and difficulties with social interactions. She is very passionate about working with kids and dedicated to helping any kids that comes her way. She loves to be outside playing beach volleyball, riding bikes, spending time with friends and family, and going on adventures.

Maggie Calderon

Maggie Calderon is a lifelong learner who strongly believes in empowering young minds through education. Since graduating from UC Santa Cruz with Degrees in Psychology and Language Studies, she has dabbled in various educational positions relating to language development and has discovered a passion for working with differently-abled children outside of the school system. She specializes in early education, has training and experience working with children with ADHD and/or in the Autism spectrum, and is enrolled in an Educational Therapy Program to receive her Professional Certificate in Educational Therapy.  Maggie is also undergoing Yoga Teacher Training and hopes to be able to apply what she knows to soon help children who have issues with attention, anxiety, and self esteem find self-health, relaxation, and inner fulfillment. When not working or studying, you could probably find her in a café with her nose in a good book or at the beach strumming her ukulele.

Maria Bagby

Maria Bagby has 25 years experience in  K-12 and adult education and is a member of the International Dyslexia Association, National Council for Learning Disabilities, and Association for Educational Therapists. Maria began her career as a kindergarten teacher while she earned her first MA degree (Early Childhood Psychology) from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Over the course of her career Maria has worked at the national, state, and local levels developing teacher excellence programs, advocacy programs for students and teachers, and is a recognized leader in programs for the professional development of teachers and administrators.
Maria’s passion has always been in developing an understanding and remediating learning challenges faced by children. It was her passion for offering hope to affected children, and achieving real results that drove her decision to transition into private practice outside of the school system. Focusing initially on dyslexia remediation, she founded the Therapeutic Literacy Center. As a certified Educational Therapist, she relocated her practice from Aspen Colorado to Solana Beach where she has has hired and trained the best clinicians to work 1:1 with each client.
